God, through his word, instructs parents to raise the children He gives them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Ephesians 6:1-4). This means that parents have a God-given duty and calling to disciple their children. This commitment is made before the congregation as a public confession of the parents. It is also an invitation for the congregation to make a commitment to pray and encourage the parents along the way. A culture of discipleship begins with households taking seriously the responsibility of instructing and teaching the children the truths of God and his Word.
